Direct Thermal

What is Direct Thermal?

Direct thermal is a printing technology used by certain types of printers, including label printers and some receipt printers.

Direct thermal printing uses heat-sensitive paper or labels that darken when exposed to heat. The printer uses a heated print head to create the image or text on the label by selectively applying heat to the paper. Because direct thermal printing does not require ink or toner, it is often used in environments where low-cost printing and minimal maintenance are important. Direct thermal printing is commonly used for applications such as barcode labels, shipping labels, and receipts. While direct thermal printing is generally fast and efficient, the printed labels may fade over time if exposed to heat or sunlight, and the labels may also be sensitive to moisture and other environmental factors.
